A Moorhead family is welcoming a new addition to their family, but it's one they weren't quite expecting.
The Tunheim family adopted 16–year–old Yohannes from Ethiopia after his story captured their love.
His photo already on the wall.. and his bedroom all set for the perfect homecoming.
"Completely overwhelmed with emotion," Nick said.
But when Nick Tunheim left for Ethiopia, he didn't know he would be bringing home Yohannes to join the family so soon.
"I was like no we're done, this is it. We have too much on our plates," Ann, his mother said.
With two biological kids and a three–year–old girl they adopted from Ethiopia in 2010, The Tunheim's were plenty busy.
But on another trip to Ethiopia at the Hope for the Hopeless Orphanage, they met Yohannes who changed their minds and their hearts.
"We were really captured by his heart and strength and gentle spirit," Ann said.
But it was his life before the orphanage that tugged at the Tunheims.
"He grabbed our hearts and there was something about our connection," Nick said.
Yohannes lived on the streets alone, sleeping in this telephone booth at night.
Breaking his leg at a young age he was forced to walk around using a stick, searching for
food and money.
"Every day I prayed I'd get a family," Yohannes said.
and that dream has now come true.
"We fell in love with him. It was meant to be and everything fell into place," Ann said.
A place that welcomed him home with plenty of open arms.
Yohannes will start easing into classes at Park Christian School next week.
He wants to one day become a pastor and a doctor to help the people who have helped him.
