After 21 gun salute in the morning, the Memorial of the late Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi was held in GuleleBotanicCenter in the presence of government officials, leaders of neighboring countries and invited guests yesterday. Government employees were ordered to attend a candlelit vigil later in the afternoon. Especially, employees of the Addis Abeba City Administration have been directed to attend the candlelit vigil in Meskel Square at 3pm carrying candles that were purchased by the government.

Most employees and officials were absent from work leading to an unofficial work closure.  Street dwellers and children have also been transported to the Square to attend the memorial vigil.
